Spring has sprung and everyone is out and about soaking up the sun and enjoying the fabulous walking and biking paths around Wright. This is just a reminder that if you are out enjoying the walking and bike paths with your animals The Town of Wright does have a Leash Law and it will be strictly enforced. According to The Town of Wright Codes all animals must be on a leash and under the direct control of the owner. Any animal shall be deemed to be at large when it is off the owner's property and/or the animal is not under direct control of a responsible party. Direct Control is established with a leash, harness or other physical restraint which allows the responsible owner to directly maintain control of the animal. Many animals have taken obedience classes and owners feel that they have control of their animal without a physical restraint, however, the Town Code specifically states that an animal must have a leash, harness or the like that attaches pet to owner and gives the owner a physical means to control the animal.

The penalties for an animal at large are as follows:

Unlicensed Animal: An unlicensed dog or cat at large, seventy five dollars ($75.00) for the first offense, one hundred dollars ($100.00) for the second offense within one year, and one hundred fifty dollars ($150.00) for a third offense within one year.

Licensed Animal: A licensed dog or cat at large, thirty dollars ($30.00) for the first offense, fifty dollars ($50.00) for a second offense with one year, and one hundred dollars ($100.00) for a third offense within one year.

That being said, please remember to license your dogs and cats at the Wright Town Hall for the 2017 Year. Licenses and Tags can be obtained from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. To successfully license .your animal you will need to bring their current shot records which indicate date oflast rabies shots. The cost to license your animal is $2.00 if your pet has been spayed or neutered and $4.00 if they are unaltered.
